Danvers State

I was lucky enough to receive my copy of The History and Architecture of Danvers State Hospital last week.

This coffee table style book illustrates the entire life of Danvers, from historical imagery of the late 1800s, pictures from within Danvers in 1974 just before the centralized model of mental health care was abandoned, and finally images of the relic that dominated Hawthorne hill for years.

The book is nearly as large as a coffee table. Maine Coon for scale.

The author, John Gray has operated the Danvers State Hospital website for a number of years, where you can order this book. In 2012 Gray published Abandoned Asylums of New England, available at Amazon.
